Reclassification FAQ's

If a job is reclassified, what is the effective date of the action?
If the incumbent in the job has passed the appropriate civil service exam prior to the date the position was audited, the effective date of a reclassification is the beginning of the pay period in which the audit was conducted.

If the incumbent in the job had not passed the appropriate civil service exam prior to the date the position was audited, the effective date of a reclassification is the beginning of the pay period following the date the appropriate Civil Service examination is taken and.
 
How much of a promotional increase will an employee whose job has been reclassified be eligible for?
The promotional salary increase must represent at least a 4% increase or the minimum of the range for the new classification, whichever is greater.  Promotional increases up to 10% will be granted if requested.

Promotional increases greater than 10% can be requested and will be reviewed based on justification provided.
 
If a job is reclassified retroactive to the beginning of the pay period in which the audit was conducted, is the incumbent eligible for back pay?
Yes.  Back pay will be based on the difference in the old and new hourly rate and must cover all hours worked, including overtime if applicable, from the effective date of the reclassification through the end of the pay period prior to when the reclassification is being processed. The unit is responsible for working with the Payroll Office to process retroactive pay adjustments..
 
Who should be contacted with questions concerning the effective date of classification changes or the rates of pay to use when calculating back pay?
